Enjoying around 330 days of sun each year the Costa del Sol is known as the Sun Coast. An average temperature of 22°C, a 100-mile coastline, miles of  beach and an average sea temperature of 18°C makes it easy to see why the Spanish Costa del Sol is one of Europe’s favourite holiday destinations.

Costa del Sol Weather in Summer - May, June, July, August

The Costa del Sol’s Mediterranean climate enjoys hot, dry summers.

Sun seekers will adore the Costa del Sol in summer when average temperatures reach a stunning 29°C. Swimmers and divers will enjoy the sea as it climbs to 23°C for much of the summer.

Some people do find the peak summer months to be a little too hot despite the welcome afternoon sea breeze.

To avoid the very hottest months visit in May or June when the average maximum temperature is 23-27°C.

Costa del Sol Weather in Spring and Autumn - March, April, September, October

From September to early October the average maximum temperature is falling from 28°C to 23°C. At these times a beach holiday is extremely pleasant but not too hot and the winter rain is avoided.

March and April see the building of temperatures and can be very pleasant although evenings can be cooler.

Costa del Sol Weather in Winter - November, December, January, February

Sheltered by the mountain range Sierra Bermeja, the Marbella area has much less rain and is warmer in winter than the west of Andalucia. This mild climate has turned the Costa del Sol into the all-year-round destination it is today. Even a winter’s day in the Costa del Sol is usually more than warm enough for a game of golf or tennis.

January, the coolest month sees average maximum temperatures of 16°C.

There's nearly always the sun which tends to make anything seem far warmer and more enjoyable.  Most of the rain falls in winter and it can last for three or four days, but after that the sun comes out once more.
